Ubiquiti Access Point Setup: Quick Setup Guide

To use the UniFi Network controller it is essential to have the Ubiquiti access point. Setting up the UniFi Controller is very easy and can be done within very few times. Here we are going through the initial Ubiquiti access point setup procedure.

How to Setup Ubiquiti Access Point?

Before starting the setup procedure, you need the following things.

  • A modem/router 
  • Network cable
  • A Ubiquiti access point
  • A computer or laptop and ensure that the access point and the computer are connected to the same network.

Now, let’s start the setup procedure. 

Step 1: connect the Access Point

Take a power cable and connect one end of it to the access point. You have to connect the other end to the Ethernet port of the router/ modem.

Use another cable and then connect it to the power socket. Connect the other end to the access point. 

Step 2: Download the Software

Next, launch a web browser and then open the download page of the Ubiquiti. After that, move to the Software page. Under here you will see the recent version of the controller. 

 Go to the top right corner and tap on the Download option. Now, the downloading procedure will be started. When done, reboot your system You will see an installation wizard on the screen.

Select a location for the software and thereafter start the installation procedure. If you see ‘ Do you not have the application Java’ message on the display, then you have to download the java software. 

If you see ‘Do you have a 64bit computer’ message on the screen, then also you might have to install the 64bit version of Java.

In case, the installation procedure has been successfully completed, then you will see a pop-up window that indicates that the Controller software is running on the background. You will also find a link in the pops up window, click on it in order to set the access point. 

Step 3: Wi-Fi setup

After that,  the access point’s configuration page will open in the browser. Your web browser may inform you that the connection is not secure. As the setup procedure is still not completed, so you can ignore the notification. 

Tap on the Advanced option and then hit the ‘Continue to localhost’ option. 

After that, all the available Ubiquiti devices will appear on the display. Now, you have to choose the device that you wish to set up and after that hit the Next button. Now, you should follow some on-screen instructions and complete the basic setup procedure. Like, choose your location and time. 

On the next page, you should select the Network name (SSID). Also, enter the security key (password). Tap on Next to continue.

For the admin account, you have to select an account name and password. Therefore, enter it and tap on Next. 

This will lead to a new page, you will see the overview of the settings. Go through them and if the settings are not selected, then select them all.

After that, your account will be created. You must enter your details information and when finished, tap on the Login option.

Now, you are on the user page of the Ubiquiti page. Via the Controler software, you can adjust the settings. You are advised to create a configuration page in order to quickly change the settings.

1. How to Identify the PC Domain Controller?

In case, you are using a Windows Server System for your small business, then one of your computers will act as a domain controller (DC). To determine which computer is the domain controller, read the given directions.

  • Open your Windows computer. Enter ‘CMD’ in the search box and press the Enter key. Double-click on the first search results in order to open the Command Prompt.
  • Simultaneously press the Ctrl and C keys and copy the ‘echo %logonserver%’ command. After that, press the Ctrl and V keys together and press it to the clipboard.
